How G Data Keeps You Safe Online

When banking and shopping online

The connection between your bank and your computer is usually encrypted. The transmitted data is decrypted in your browser: this is where cybercriminals use banking Trojans to interfere with the process. As soon as you make a transfer, the attackers manipulate the data being sent. Your money then no longer goes to the intended recipient, such as an online shop, but ends up in a different account.

Of course, the G Data virus scanner recognises banking Trojans by their characteristics. If a signature already exists for the threat, Internet Security neutralises the malware as soon as it is downloaded. G Data BankGuard technology also protects against dangers that are not yet known: the function makes sure your browser only shows verified, unaltered content.

How does BankGuard do this?

Manipulation by banking Trojans takes place in certain files in memory. G DATA BankGuard automatically detects when an infection attempt is taking place and replaces the affected memory area with a safe copy.

While you send and receive emails

As well as the files on your hard drive and external storage, the G Data virus scanner also checks your emails for malicious content. This applies to all messages that you receive and send with the email program on your computer. If the scanner finds nothing, the G Data anti-spam function also checks the emails for features that are typical of spam. A score reflecting the likelihood of spam is calculated from these features.

In addition to its own assessment, OutbreakShield technology compares the results with an online database that records the patterns of mass-mailed viruses and spam emails. This way, G Data Internet Security closes the gap in real time between the start of a mass mailing and the point when specially adapted signatures can combat it.

When browsing

The virus guard checks all files that come from the web. It stops infected documents, images and more as soon as they are downloaded. This means even unnoticed downloads no longer pose a threat to you. Internet Security does not rely only on the virus signatures, which are updated every hour. Alongside signature scanning, the software uses a cloud solution: this online storage holds information about the characteristics of current files containing malicious code. These characteristics are compared with those of your files – so you quickly find out whether everything is safe.

And how does G DATA protect against dangerous websites?

Internet addresses are also collected in the cloud: if a URL is known in the database as a distributor of malicious content, G Data browser protection blocks the page. So if cybercriminals try to trap you with phishing links, you have nothing to fear. By the way, this also applies to attacks via social networks: links in fake posts and adverts are not opened in the browser.

Independently of the cloud, G Data web protection examines all data sent to your computer to load a web page. This way, it detects dangerous content before you open the page.
