Why the check is worth doing now

Windows 11 has higher requirements for your PC, especially the processor, TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot. The check covers the key points in a minute and shows where you should look for yourself.

14.10.2025

Since then, Windows 10 no longer receives support or security updates from Microsoft.

12.10.2027

Until then, home users' Windows 10 PCs receive security updates once enrolled in Microsoft's ESU programme.

TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot: how to check

Your browser can't read either of them. With the tools built into Windows, it takes a minute.

Check for TPM 2.0

1. Press Windows logo key + R.
2. Type tpm.msc and select OK.
3. Under “TPM Manufacturer Information”, “Specification Version” shows 2.0.
If Windows reports that no compatible TPM was found, it may simply be switched off.

Check Secure Boot

1. Press Windows logo key + R.
2. Type msinfo32 and select OK.
3. In System Summary, “BIOS Mode” shows UEFI and “Secure Boot State” shows On.

Switched off? How to turn it on

On Windows 10: Settings › Update & Security › Recovery › Restart now, then Troubleshoot › Advanced options › UEFI Firmware Settings › Restart. Your PC manufacturer's instructions explain where the switches are.
How to open the BIOS

A requirement not met? Here is what you can do

  • TPM or Secure Boot is off: Often both are simply switched off. Turn them on in the UEFI firmware settings and check again.
  • Not enough memory or storage: On many PCs you can upgrade both. Ask your PC's manufacturer or a retailer.
  • Processor too old: Your PC is then not approved for Windows 11. In this case, Microsoft recommends a new PC.

Frequently asked questions about the Windows 11 check

Quick answers.

How much does the Windows 11 check cost?

Nothing. The check is free and needs no sign-up or download.

What happens to my details?

The check runs in your browser only. We do not store your details. If you have agreed to web analytics, we measure how the page is used, as we do on all pages.

How do I check whether my PC has TPM 2.0?

Press the Windows key and R, type tpm.msc and select OK. Under “TPM Manufacturer Information”, “Specification Version” must show 2.0. If Windows reports that a compatible TPM cannot be found, it may simply be switched off.

My PC is not compatible. What now?

If only TPM 2.0 or Secure Boot is missing, you can often turn both on in the UEFI firmware settings. On Windows 10: Settings > Update & Security > Recovery > Restart now, then Troubleshoot > Advanced options > UEFI Firmware Settings > Restart. Your PC manufacturer's manual shows where the switches are. If the processor is too old, your PC is not supported for Windows 11. Not sure? Message us, we are happy to help.

Does the check also work on a phone or Mac?

Yes. On a phone, a Mac or another device, you enter the details about your PC yourself. It is easiest to run the check on the PC you want to use for Windows 11, as it can read that PC's specifications automatically.

How long will Windows 10 still get updates?

Support for Windows 10 ended on 14 October 2025. Security updates are now only available through Microsoft's ESU programme, for home users until 12 October 2027.

How do I find out which processor my PC has?

Open Settings > System > About. Under “Device specifications”, the model is shown next to “Processor”. The PC Health Check app shows whether it is on Microsoft's list.

What does the PC Health Check app show?

Microsoft's app checks all requirements on Windows 10 PCs, including processor, graphics card and memory. Windows Update also shows whether your PC is ready for Windows 11, under Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update.
