What is the difference from the Device CAL?
A User CAL licenses one person, who may then access the server from any number of devices. A Device CAL licenses one device, which may then be used by any number of people. The User CAL is more flexible for mobile employees, while the Device CAL is often cheaper for shift work.
Where on the server are these licences installed?
RDS CALs are managed through server software. You need to install the "Remote Desktop Licensing" role on a server in your network. You then enter the licence keys you received from us in the "Remote Desktop Licensing Manager" to activate the licence pool.
Can I also use a 2025 CAL to access a server running Windows Server 2022?
Yes, that is possible. CALs are backward compatible. With an RDS 2025 User CAL you can access Windows Server 2025, 2022, 2019 and older.
