Microsoft Exchange Server 2010 Device CAL
Description
Microsoft Exchange Server 2010 Device CAL: Flexible Email Licensing for Older Hardware!
License your shared workstations cost-effectively for access to your proven communication infrastructure with a Microsoft Exchange Server 2010 Device CAL. This Client Access Licence (CAL) is the official access permission tied to a specific device (e.g. a PC, a terminal or a shared laptop). Once licensed, any number of employees may use that device to access your mailboxes and calendars. Ideal for shift-based operations or hot-desking environments. Get your official perpetual licence from Vollversion-Software and keep your IT compliant.
What is an Exchange Device CAL, and when is it the smartest choice?
The Device CAL is always the right choice when more people than devices need to access the Exchange Server.
- One device, many users: License a computer once and give every employee who uses that PC full access to the Exchange Server. Perfect for shift work, computers in production or warehouse areas, and kiosk systems.
- Minimal cost, maximum use: This licensing option is significantly more cost-effective than user-based licensing when 3 or more people share a device.
- Full range of features: Gives access to emails, calendars, contacts and tasks via Outlook or Outlook Web App (OWA) from the licensed device.
Flexible licence packs for your entire infrastructure
We make licence management simple. This Device CAL is available individually and in convenient packs for 5, 10, 25 or 50 devices.
If your employees mainly work across several devices of their own (e.g. a PC and a laptop), the user-based Exchange Server 2010 User CAL may be the more flexible alternative.

Important licensing note
Please note that an Exchange Server CAL is an additional licence. To use Exchange Server 2010 legally, you must have:
- A valid licence for Exchange Server 2010 Standard or Enterprise Edition.
- These Exchange Server 2010 Device CALs for every device that accesses a mailbox.
- In addition (always required for Windows Server), a Windows Server CAL for every device/user that accesses the underlying Windows Server.
Frequently asked questions
A PC at our reception desk is used by two employees. Which Exchange CALs do I need?
You need exactly one Exchange Server 2010 Device CAL for this one PC. Since two employees share the PC, this is the most cost-effective solution.
Can I also use these 2010 Device CALs to access Exchange Server 2013 or later?
No. Exchange CALs are not forward-compatible. An Exchange Server 2010 Device CAL only allows access to an Exchange Server 2010. For newer server versions, you need the corresponding newer CALs.
How long will Exchange Server 2010 continue to receive support from Microsoft?
Extended support for Exchange Server 2010 ended on 13 October 2020. This means Microsoft no longer provides security updates or bug fixes. We therefore recommend running it only in isolated network environments protected by firewalls.
What is the difference between this Device CAL and an Exchange Server 2010 User CAL?
A Device CAL is tied to a device, which can then be used by any number of users. A User CAL is tied to a user, who can then access the server from any number of devices. The Device CAL is often the best choice when there are more users than devices to license.
