Microsoft Exchange Server 2019 User CAL
Description
Microsoft Exchange Server 2019 User CAL: Powerful email tools for today's mobile workforce!
With the Exchange Server 2019 User CAL, an employee can use email, calendar and contacts on your Exchange Server from all of their devices – in the office, at home or on the move. It applies to Exchange Server 2019 and earlier versions. Microsoft support ended on 14 October 2025; the licence remains valid indefinitely.
What is an Exchange User CAL and when is it the best choice for you?
The User CAL is the best choice for businesses whose employees work flexibly. The principle is "one user, many devices".
- User-based licensing: You assign the licence once to an employee, not to their individual devices.
- Seamless switching between devices: Whether it's an office PC, a laptop used for working from home, a tablet or a smartphone, the licensed employee can access the Exchange Server services from all of their devices without restriction.
- Ideal for mobile and hybrid working: The perfect solution for field staff or employees who are not tied to a fixed workplace.
Flexible licence packs for businesses of all sizes
We make licence management simple. This User CAL is available individually as well as in convenient packs for 5, 10, 25 or 50 users.
If your organisation mainly uses computers shared by staff working shifts or by people in public areas, the device-based Exchange Server 2019 Device CAL may be a cheaper alternative.

Important licensing information
Please note that an Exchange Server CAL is an additional licence. To use Exchange Server 2019 legally, you must have:
- A valid licence for Exchange Server 2019 Standard or Enterprise Edition.
- These Exchange Server 2019 User CALs for every employee who accesses it.
- In addition (always required for Windows Server), a Windows Server CAL for each user/device that accesses the underlying Windows Server.
Frequently asked questions
An employee accesses the Exchange mailbox from their PC and laptop. How many licences do I need?
You only need one Exchange Server 2019 User CAL for this employee. The licence covers all of their devices, which makes it the perfect choice for flexible ways of working.
Can I also use these 2019 User CALs to access a server running Exchange Server 2022 or later?
No. Exchange CALs are not compatible with later server versions. An Exchange Server 2019 User CAL only permits access to a server running Exchange Server 2019.
When does Microsoft's support for Exchange Server 2019 end?
Extended support for Exchange Server 2019 ended on 14 October 2025. Your CALs remain valid permanently, and you can continue to run the server.
What is the difference between this User CAL and an Exchange Server 2019 Device CAL?
A User CAL is assigned to one user, who can then access the server from any number of devices. A Device CAL is assigned to one device, which can then be used by any number of users. If your employees typically use several devices, the User CAL is often the more cost-effective choice.
