What exactly is the difference between an RDS User CAL and an RDS Device CAL?
A User CAL is assigned to a specific user, who may then access the server from any number of devices. A Device CAL is assigned to a specific device, which may then be used by any number of users (e.g. on shifts).
I have 10 employees who need to work remotely. What do I need to buy?
For 10 employees, you can either buy 10 individual ‘1 User CAL’ licences or simply buy our handy 10 User CAL pack. This makes managing your licences much easier.
Can I use these 2012 CALs to access Windows Server 2019 or 2022?
No. The rule is that the CAL version must always be the same as or higher than the server version. With a 2012 CAL you can only access Windows Server 2012 or older, not a newer version.
Does this licence have an expiry date?
No, the licence itself is valid indefinitely (perpetual licence). Please note, however, that the underlying operating system, Windows Server 2012, no longer receives security updates from Microsoft.
Is this a physical delivery?
No, this is a digital product. You receive the licence key by email after purchase and can enter it directly in Remote Desktop Licensing Manager on your server.
