Windows Server 2025 User CAL
Description
Microsoft Windows Server 2025 User CAL: The future-proof licence for your employees
Make sure access to your next-generation server infrastructure is correctly licensed with a Microsoft Windows Server 2025 User CAL. However many cores your server has, every employee needs a Client Access License (CAL) to use basic services such as file sharing or print servers. The User CAL is tied to a specific user and offers maximum flexibility in the modern workplace. Buy your official perpetual licence from Vollversion-Software and get audit-proof licensing for every employee in your company.
What is a Windows Server User CAL?
The User CAL is the ideal choice for companies with agile employees who use several devices. The principle is "one user, many devices".
- User-based licensing: You assign the licence to an employee, not to their devices.
- Maximum flexibility: The licensed employee can access the server services from all their devices – office PC, home office laptop, tablet, smartphone.
- Ideal for mobile working: The perfect solution for field staff and employees who are not tied to a fixed workstation.
Licence packs for every company size
We make licence management simple. This User CAL is available individually and in cost-efficient packs for 5, 10, 25 or 50 users.
For computers that are shared by several people in shift work, we recommend the device-based Windows Server 2025 Device CAL as a potentially cheaper alternative.

Important note on licence management
Unlike RDS CALs, standard Windows Server CALs are not installed or managed electronically on the server. Licensing is based on trust (the "honour system"). Your proof of purchase (invoice and licence key) serves as evidence of correct licensing in the event of a review by Microsoft.
Frequently asked questions
Do I really need to buy CALs as well as the core licences for Server 2025?
Yes. The core licences for Windows Server 2025 only cover installing the operating system on the hardware. Separate CALs are always required for users or devices to access the server.
What is the difference between this Standard User CAL and an RDS User CAL?
The Standard User CAL allows basic access (files, printing, etc.). However, if a user is to use the terminal server (Remote Desktop Services) to access a central desktop or an application, they need an additional "RDS User CAL".
An employee has a PC in the office, a laptop at home and a smartphone. How many CALs do they need?
You only need one Windows Server 2025 User CAL. This one licence covers the employee on all their devices, which makes it the perfect choice.
Where on the server do I install this licence?
Nowhere. Standard CALs are purely legal proof of your licences. They are not stored electronically or activated on the server. You must keep your proof of purchase safe in case of an audit.
Can I use a 2025 User CAL to access a Windows Server 2022 or 2019 as well?
Yes. CALs are backward compatible. A 2025 CAL can be used to access Server 2025, 2022, 2019 and older.
